Research Blog

When it comes to researching for my music video, I looked up many other music videos on the same genre of music. Then, I will pick out conventions in those music videos that I think I should include in mine. The song I choose for the music video is 'Centerfield' by John Fogerty. The genre of music my song would be considered under is 'American rock and roll.' So, I looked up music videos under that genre. The first music video that I observed was 'American Rock 'n Roll' by Kid Rock. I choose this music video because it is full of scenes that include many conventions. A very noticeable convention and one that I will most likely include in my music video is the use of birds eye view and the fade in of the beginning of the song in the first scene. Another noticeable convention is the use of eye level shots that track the band members in the beginning scenes of the music video. I will most likely use that in my video too. A third and final noticeable convention that was used in the music video was the use of a low angle that pans around the front of the stage. The second music video that I observed was 'All Star' by Smash Mouth. I choose this music video because it is a very popular, catchy song and very creative music video. A very noticeable convention throughout a lot of the music video is tracking, eye level shot. Another noticeable convention throughout the music video is the inclusion of background noise in some scenes. A final noticeable convention used in this music video was the use of editing, such as fading between scenes. The last music video that I observed was 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC. I choose this music video because it is a very popular song with a great music video. A very noticeable convention is first person as seen in the first scene of the video. Another noticeable convention is the use of birds eye view panning around the crowd. A final noticeable convention is the use of the stage lighting matching the beat of the song.
