Movie Research Blog: Scream (2022)

What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? -

Some of the conventions included in the movie Scream (2022) that I have decided to use in my final task include a variety of different things. In the plot the director uses settings with minimal lighting to produce an eerie effect. The use of sound and lack of it (total silence) has the viewers on the edge of their seats. Screaming, panting, spooky background music, phone ringing, etc produce many emotions of terror.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? -

Conventions of the movie Scream (2022) that attracted me to it were the story line, the actors/characters, and the plot. The story line is one of suspense and unpredictability, giving it an exciting appeal. The actors and the characters they play are believable and have been consistently since the beginning of the Scream series of movies began. The plot, although somewhat predictable, often has many fun twists and turns.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task? -

Some of my biggest dislikes of this movie are the predictable scenes, the overuse of spooky music and screaming, and the killer behind the mask always appearing in plain sight everywhere the victims are. The most boring aspect is the bloody knife and piles of dead bodies. The settings of deserted houses and stormy nights are also overused in these films.
